Glossary

Centralised definitions of all concepts in The Beach Way.

  • Quest

A purposeful journey towards a meaningful outcome. Provides direction without requiring certainty about the path.

    In Gleo: Playbook

  • Expedition

A period of purposeful work undertaken in pursuit of a quest. Where ideas are tested, discoveries made, and momentum created.

    In Gleo: Phase

  • Campfire

A moment of collective sensemaking where discoveries are shared, assumptions challenged, and decisions made.

    In Gleo: Session

  • Activity

The smallest meaningful unit of progress within a quest. Individual acts focused on contribution, not just completion.

    In Gleo: Activity

  • Trail

Evidence of the journey: notes, recordings, decisions, prototypes, code, documents, metrics, insights, and AI-generated outputs.

In Gleo: Artefacts, Tasks and Open Questions

  • Landmark

A trusted reference point that helps people orient during a quest. The organisation's current understanding of something important.

    In Gleo: Landmark

  • Guide

Someone who helps others navigate quests: a consultant, coach, facilitator, mentor, or AI assistant.

  • Smith

One of Beach's crafts people: a forward deployed builder who turns facilitated understanding into working product, fast. A doer, not an artisan. Known in the wider industry as a product engineer.

  • Apprentice

Someone learning through participation. Defined by mindset: curiosity, questions, and contribution while learning.

  • The Beach Loop

Quest → Expedition → Trail → Campfire → Shared Understanding → Quest Evolves. The central model connecting all concepts.

  • Shared Understanding

The outcome of effective campfires: alignment on what is known, what matters, and what to do next.

  • The Forge

Where capabilities, tools, and expertise are crafted: playbooks designed, methodologies built, quests shaped.

  • Gleo

Beach's system of work. The platform where quests are designed and delivered day to day, and where customers run their own playbook engagements. See Gleo.

These words are intentional. They should feel human before they feel corporate.
