Campfires

Moments of collective sensemaking, where individual knowledge becomes shared understanding.

Campfires are moments of collective sensemaking.

This is where discoveries are shared, assumptions are challenged, beliefs are updated, decisions are made, and direction is refined. Campfires transform individual knowledge into shared understanding.

The campfire principle

A campfire should leave people with more clarity, more alignment, more confidence, and better questions. The ultimate test: participants leave saying "I understand this problem differently now."

Trails feed campfires

Participants should arrive carrying trails: research findings, customer interviews, prototypes, metrics, observations, experiments, and AI-generated synthesis. The role of the campfire is to transform those trails into understanding.

Different perspectives matter

Understanding emerges from the interaction between viewpoints, not from agreement, but from the collision of perspectives held with honesty.

The campfire rhythm

Explore, gather, reflect, decide, explore again. Campfires sit between expeditions. Every campfire should leave better trails behind: updated beliefs, new decisions, clarified priorities, and the next expedition.
